Many times people are confused at a Christian camp named Camp "Popeye." There is a reason for the name! We are called Camp Popeye because of a couple named Patrick and Doris Woods. Patrick's nickname was "Popeye." Mr. and Mrs. Woods were faithful members of Faith Way Baptist Church, and also loved Youth Ministry. Before he went on to be with the Lord, Patrick "Popeye" Woods donated his 118-acre farm to Faith Way Baptist Church to be used in the Youth Ministry. Several years later, thousands of lives have been changed as a result of His dedication to the Lord. Thus the name, "Camp Popeye."
OUR PURPOSE & GOALS
Camp Popeye is unique among camps in that it is a ministry of a local independent Baptist Church. Our purpose in ministry is to use that submission to the local church to reach young people with the Gospel and the unchanging truth of God's Word. Our goal is five-fold:
2. To teach love for God and His Word
3. To emphasize a proper relationship between young people
and their parents
4. To see young people surrendered to full-time ministry
5. To equip young people with tools that will help them better
serve the Lord in their local church.
At Camp Popeye, preaching the Word of God is our first and foremost priority;
for we know that it is the Word of God that changes lives! One of our recent
Senior Camp speakers said, "I've never seen a camp that puts as much
emphasis on the Word of God as Camp Popeye."
The #1 rule for games at Camp Popeye is that
they must be unusual, creative, and adventurous.
Our games are ones that campers have never played
before, but that they'll definitely want to play again!
For example, during the 2011 Summer, our camp
staff created a life-size 40,000 square-foot, to-scale
Pac Man maze.
